From Surf Trip to Dream Stay;
Welcome to Maravilla
What started as a summer vacation became a home we now share with travelers from around the world.
In the summer of 2020, I took my kids to Costa Rica for our annual vacation. We stayed at an
all-inclusive resort, but one day decided to explore a little surf town we had heard about—Tamarindo. That visit changed everything. With its long, golden beach, incredible food, laid-back surf culture, and the warmest, most welcoming locals we’d ever met, Tamarindo left a mark on all of us.
When we got back home, I asked my two twenty-something sons a question that would shape our next chapter: “What if you spent a few months in Tamarindo—surfing, soaking it all in—and helped me find a piece of property and a local builder?” They said yes. A few months later, we had our lot. We called it Maravilla, which means wonder or marvel, and that’s exactly how it felt.
As a family, we collaborated on the design. We wanted it to feel like home—spacious, comfortable, and modern, but still rooted in the natural beauty of Costa Rica. Today, Maravilla is exactly that. With two full master suites, a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and open-concept living areas, it offers the comfort of home with the luxury of a tropical escape. Our cold plunge pool (a brisk 45°F!) always gets a good laugh from first-time guests, and our outdoor BBQ area has become a favorite spot for dinner under the stars and post-surf storytelling.
The most fulfilling part of owning and managing Maravilla isn’t just the beautiful home we’ve built—it’s hearing from our guests. One recent comment that has stuck with me: “I could live here.” That’s exactly the feeling we hoped to create.

The waves here are beginner-friendly, perfect for families looking to learn to surf together. Fishing charters leave daily, and there’s nothing like grilling your own catch that evening at Maravilla. Need to unwind? Try a beach massage or just take in the sunset from your own private space. And most importantly—Tamarindo is safe, vibrant, and full of genuinely kind people.
